The tourism forms the main part of the Majorcan economy. In 1960 about 350,000 tourists visited the island Majorca, during the seventies there were already more than 2 million tourist per year. In 2008 Mallorca had about 10 million tourists from whom about 36% of Germans, 24% of British tourists and 22% from the mainland of Spain. Therefore Majorca is the most important and the most top-selling tourist region of Spain.
The majority of the Majorca visitors comes from Germany and the Uk. The place S'Arenal has become almost a symbol for the German mass tourism. Magaluf has the similar meaning for the british tourists.
